After six months of beta-testing, the mobile sports betting app of Fanatics is now available to players in Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio and Tennessee.
The bookmaker chose these states for a reason – at the end of August the new season of college soccer starts, and in early September the new season of NFL, the most popular sports competition in the United States, will begin.
Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio and Tennessee all have active NFL teams, and Ohio and Tennessee also have high-profile college teams that enjoy widespread fan support.
In July, Fanatics executives expressed hope that the company would launch a mobile betting app in 15 states by the start of the NFL season.
“With the recent acquisition of PointsBet’s U.S. division and its proprietary Banach technology, betting firm Fanatics will integrate the best parts of PointsBet’s technology platform to enhance the performance of its sports betting engine,” the company said in an announcement.
Fanatics acquired the U.S. business of Australian bookmaker PointsBet for $225 million in June.
